Conservatives Furious After Twitter Purges Thousands Of Accounts

One month after Project Veritas revealed that Twitter was indeed "shadow banning" and blocking views critical of Hillary Clinton, the social network appears to have done it again, and overnight Twitter appears to have suspended thousands of accounts overnight, infuriating conservatives on the platform.

As Bloomberg reports, prominent conservative pundits and activists said Wednesday that thousands of their followers had been deleted overnight.  Other users said they received messages from Twitter asking them to confirm they were real people before being allowed to keep using the service.

“The twitter purge is real,” conservative podcast host Dan Bongino said on Twitter. “Twitter blocked me from twitter ads last night and purged thousands of followers.”

Conservatives have long accused - and in retrospect, with reason - Twitter of targeting them specifically. EvenAjit Pai, the chair of the Federal Communications Commission, has said the service discriminates against conservatives. On the flip side, progressive users say Twitter doesn’t do enough to stop harassment against women and people of color. Some argue President Donald Trump, Twitter’s most influential users, should be banned for bullying opponents.

While Twitter has yet to make a public statement about the issue, Gizmodo reports that right-wing users believe that they’re being targeted in a mass purge of suspected conservatives under the guise that they are "Russian bot" accounts.

As Bloomberg adds, Twitter has been seeking out and shutting down automated accounts that pretend to be real people as pressure mounts to purge the service of “bots” that artificially inflate follower counts and advertising metrics.

Other fake accounts have been traced to Russian-backed agents that the U.S. government says are working to sow political discord in the country. Researchers say as many as 15 percent of users could be fake, a number Twitter says is much lower.

It’s unclear if the latest loss of followers is related to bots. A Twitter spokesperson didn’t immediately return a request for comment

In response, a hashtag called #TwitterLockOut was launched by conservatives to talk about the purge, with some claiming that real people (as opposed to bots) were locked out of their accounts. On Wednesday morning The hashtag “TwitterLockOut” was trending in the U.S.

Everyone from well known figures of the alt-right, like neo-Nazi Richard Spencer, to people with Twitter handles like @Isa4031AMP, @DonofJustice, and @Patriotsavior seem to have been impacted by the move—at least when it comes to their follower counts.

As has happened on previous occasions, conservatives claim that they’ve lost hundreds and sometimes thousands of followers overnight.

Bill Mitchell, a popular voice within the community known for his tweets defending President Trump, claims that he lost roughly 4,000 followers overnight.

Many people who are angry with Twitter are advocating for a move to Gab, a competing social media platform that has become the preferred alternative to Twitter among conservatives.

Some Trump supporters have even blamed the Twitter account purge on Russia.

Mike Flynn Jr., son of the former Trump national security advisor, also claims that Twitter is targeting conservatives, though he claims he’s given the company the “benefit of doubt.”

Gizmodo said it has reached out to Twitter and will provide an update if @Jack's company - whose stock in recent days has soared on the back of its first ever profit and a short squeeze - responds.

Home of the free, land of the brave.....

You know, all that "freedom" bullshit you hear about in our country, which is why we have to invade other countries (who just happen to have natural resources) because they censor their people or are causing a "humanitarian crisis".

Free speech is criteria #1 to a true democracy or free republic.

But, LMFAO!  The US is a total dictatorship.  Keep posting your mug shots to FB and unlocking your device with your finger print, thinking this social media gig is like totally awesome!

This is actually fantastic news.  Although I do not "tweet", the more the libs at Twitter censor their users, the quicker will be the flight away from their socio-marxist platform and on to truly free applications like GAB.  Also, people with an IQ above 80 should begin to ask themselves... Hmmmm, what is it that is so verboten?  This will titillate curiosity and thus send thousands hurling into the great wide-open of truth.

Gab has its drawbacks and simply is not as slick as twitter.  At least on twitter I can check what certain authors are posting, for example I like Makow and Perloff who rarely seem to be blocked.  I can read their streams on twitter without logging in since my account is blocked.  Not so on Gab.

I got Venezuella, Cambodia and Ukrainian Holodomor.  What the fuck do you got?   You are a fucking retard.

Capitalism does NOT lead to starvation, because people are incentivized to work and produce.

Also, capitalists systems tend to protect the individual against the collective.  Socialists, by definition, exploit the individual to benefit the collective.  When the individual has no governmental protection of his property, production, (and eventually, even his life), that individual does not behave the same way he would if he was protected.  He won't work as hard, he won't invest his capital, and the smart ones will flee the country completely, leaving only the stupid or trapped to be whipped and coerced at gunpoint to carry the burden.  This is why socialism leads to starvation and capitalism does not.

You aren't bragging about free market capitalist economies enough. Look at this list of famines and pestilences in England.

Science takes wealth, surpluses to devote to people doing science. Not only does free market capitalism not produce the starvations, it stops the great majority of the natural starvations and epidemics, human and animal.

Twitter deletes a lot of accounts.  Just because some loser crows about his bot followers being deleted, you Trumptards bark and howl at the feast of fake red meat.  And then you conflate your various conspiracy theories into vast swamps of conspiracies to bathe in your puddles of paranoia.

Putin is getting his way - Amerika is becoming the land of hate and complete distrust of those who protect us.  What do you think will protect you and your red army bros take down the FBI - who will protect you from the Kremlin?   The FBI is flawed, like all organizations, but in today's world you are a fool to throw it out.

Capitalism doesn't, but capitalism always succumbs to corruption, invariably based on socialist ideals, and THAT results in starvation.

The US, a "capitalist" system, has lots of hungry people who can't work because their skills aren't worth minimum wage. Some of us still remember full-serve gas stations and, if we were middle-class, having a housekeeper. Minimum wage priced those jobs out of existence.

There is no greater evil than Good Intentions.

Here is another term very misunderstood, poorly defined, and almost always misused.  Capitalism is another word like liberalism it's meaning is devoid in modern usage.  It's part of the destruction of the of the language so that we may not think nor communicate effectively.  The founding fathers never spoke of capitalism.  I think it was a creation Marx, or at least brought to popular usage by him.  I would not use the word for that reason alone.  I rather think in terms of property rights, hard monetary systems, and individual freedom.  So it is not capitalism that brings prosperity, but the rights of the individual to creatively produce all that he can with what he has accumulated in a free society.

Not quite.

Capitalism is an economic system where private entities own the factors of production:

  1. entrepreneurship
  2. capital goods
  3. natural resources
  4. labor

The owners of capital goods, natural resources, and entrepreneurship exercise control through companies. The individual owns his or her labor. The only exception would be slavery, where it is owned by another individual or a company.

But slavery is illegal throughout the entire world.

Really? So what do you call American system? Was it capitalism in America or not?

Do you think you have any protection of property? You make me laugh. YOU DO NOT OWN ANYTHING. You RENT from the government: they give you the privilege to rent your car(you pay for licenses, insurance, tax, etc. Try not to do it and see if you can drive your car.

Home? you pay property taxes, insurance.try not to pay your tax and see if they let you have "your" rented home.

same for your work: you pay for a license to be given "the right" to work, and do that every year or 2 years.Example: a physician has to pay every 2 years 550 $ for a license, then malpractice(enormous amount),registration for drug dispenses(other 700$).etc.

Income tax to death.

For the land they tax you too.

Now ,you even have mandatory "health insurance"

And you have 50 Mil on food stamps:do you think they would starve to death other way? THERE IS NO OTHER country like this(50 Mil is almost the size of France). More than 50% US population receives on or other form of gov help.

HOW do you call this?

You pay license fees to use the publicly paid for roads.   If you buy a car and drive  it on your own land you don't need a govt issued license.   If you want to drive on someone else's private road  you need what ever they demand to use their road.

You argument as far as car licenses  is just silly.   Surprise if you want firemen to show up when your house is on fire,  someone has to pay for them.

No, you don't believe that. No one is that ignorant of the meaning of personal liberty or freedom, US corporate law not withstanding.

Do you mean that you FEEL it is a public utility? That's different, and completely meaningless outside your head.

Twitter may be a monopoly. Google, too. The legal definition of 'monopoly' is vague at best, but I don't see where either discourages people from choosing alternatives, and I think that's a key legal test. Someone else here probably knows.

If a 'Private' Company works with one or MORE national Governments to modify its products, services or platforms to effect common 'Public' perception then it no longer falls under the category of 'Private' and IS therefore open to criticism by any of the public since those actions, as Twitter has committed, now bring it into the 'Public' sphere..

    As such...

  • "In 2016, Twitter cooperated with the Israeli government to remove certain content originating outside Israel from tweets seen in Israel. In the 11th biannual transparency report published on September 19, 2017, Twitter said that Turkey was the first among countries where about 90 percent of removal requests came from, followed by Russia, France and Germany.

Long Story Short: Twitter is dead bang open to criticism of its partial public services and as such WILL BE correctly criticized.

Legally, no. Legally, Twitter can do as it wishes. Free markets - what's left of them - don't care how you feel, snowflake.

The same laws that protect a baker from being forced to make a penis cake for a gay wedding also protect a web site from pursuing a moral and ethical path. Look at CNN...

"Twitter is a private company.

They can deny service to anyone, for any reason. I like that, even if I don't approve of the stated or underlying reason."

I agree that private companies can make policies as they please.  Yet, tell that to the private bakeries that were sued for damages because they refused to provide a cake for a homosexual "wedding."  Seems that when someone discriminates against any "progressive" belief, they are persecuted, but it is perfectly OK for Twitter to delete the accounts of conservative Twitter users.  Which is it going to be?  They can't have it both ways but it seems that they are getting away with it for now.

I prefer to call them by their real name.  They are communist socialist pure and simple.   Let's take back the vocabulary that they have distorted and turned on it's head.  Let's put liberty back into the word liberal.  How can you be liberal in an authoritarian central committee controlled environment?  How can you be liberal when you are tied down by the chains of censorship?  How can you be liberal when you are in a mental prison that the socialist systems puts you?  How can you be liberal when you are to poor to give liberally?  In today's thinking the words liberal and liberty are opposites.  How can that be?

Why is there only one Twitter?  Okay, now you have Gab too.  Not exactly "competition" now is it?

It is all old tech now.  Why are there not thousands or millions of "Twitters"?

What would it take to have some de-centralized "Twitters" so the censored branches can be discarded on-the-fly???

That doesn't matter much.

Apple isn't even a player in the internet, except in Democrat or millennial havens (and not really there, either). One hears about Apple constantly from diehard fanboys, ads, and grandparents, but they're a small player in a massive, rapidly expanding world market.

Apple doesn't have much market share in any device niche, be it tablets, phones, laptops, desktops, or servers. They lost their shaky foothold when Jobs died.

This does not solve the underlying problem. The Progressives so bitterly hate the right whether moderate or far right, that there never is a discussion.

My friends are Progressive and admit it. We bicker all the time so we agreed to not talk political issues, yet they always sneak in a comment or two just because they cannot help it. A snide comment but then if I reply I get beaten up for bringing up the discussion. They have lost control and do not even understand it.

I reject your moral equivalency argument. The left, if you will, has lost its collective mind because it no longer can convince people of the merits, if any, of their views. This is because we have had the misfortune to live the consequences of decades of their failed policies. As a result, they not only don't bother to try to win converts, but they also can't even make an argument in the first place. The end result is that the left must now resort to the constant use of force to compel adherence to their emotionally driven world view.

The r-selected left cannot comprehend the ideals of the K-selected right, nor vice versa, any more than a rabbit can convince a wolf to shit on its food or eat shit smeared grass.

That inability to see one another's perspective wasn't a problem until the left decided it was time to throw out all the Western values that made things pretty darned great. Being emotional thinkers for the most part, they'll keep pushing that agenda right up until the purge begins. Then, they'll wonder why they're being hunted. Eventually, the constant threat will trigger an epigenetic shift from r-selected to K-selected, and everyone will be pretty much on the same page again.
