Is The United States On A Road To Becoming Ungovernable?

Authored by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog,

For a long time I have observed the rancor in modern American political discourse, and I have become concerned about where all of this anger and frustration is taking us.  In order for any society to function, there must be some form of government.  And in order for government to function, a certain percentage of the population has to be willing to submit to the authority of that government.

For example, there will always be a few tax protesters out there that refuse to pay their taxes, but if every single American suddenly decided to stop paying taxes our system of taxation would collapse overnight.  Sure, the government could prosecute thousands of us, but if that crackdown still didn’t motivate people to start paying their taxes there is not much that could be done.

The only reason any form of government works is because enough people buy into the narrative that the government is legitimate and should be respected.  Here in the United States, fewer and fewer people are buying into that narrative.

The Pew Research CenterGallup, and NPR have all run polls that show that faith in government is near all-time lows in the United States.  A lot of us have been let down so many times, and most of us simply do not “believe in America” like we once did.  Yes, we may still believe in “the people” or “the values” that the nation was founded upon, but at our core we just do not have faith in our governmental institutions.

But simply being disillusioned is not going to be enough to make us ungovernable.  Generations of Americans have complained about government, but they have always gone along with the system.  Unfortunately, things are changing in a fundamental way.  Instead of just complaining about government, Americans are being trained to think of government as the enemy.  We certainly witnessed a great deal of this under Barack Obama, and without a doubt Obama was absolutely terrible, but now under Donald Trump things have gone to an entirely new level.

We literally have millions of people in this country that truly believe that President Trump is the moral equivalent of Adolf Hitler and that the Republican Party is a bunch of fascists.

Of course some conservatives have been saying similar things about Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and the Democrats for years.  But with Trump we are witnessing something that we have never seen before.  The mainstream media is actually pounding the drumbeats of hatred for our president day after day, and when you say something long enough and loud enough some people are going to believe you.

If you truly believe that someone is just like Adolf Hitler, the logical response would be to do whatever is necessary to end the tyranny.  And this is precisely what we have seen from Antifa – their open embrace of violence is justified in their eyes because of the “enemy” that they are fighting.

And it isn’t just Trump that the left is targeting.  Just this week a deranged man in Ohio was arrested for threatening U.S. Congressman Brian Mast

A Stuart man was arrested Tuesday after a federal complaint states he threatened U.S. Rep. Brian Mast’s children over the Trump administration’s child-separation immigration policy.

Laurence Key called Mast’s Washington office Monday and said, “I’m going to find the congressman’s kids and kill them,” an intern who took the call told the FBI, according to a federal complaint filed in U.S. District Court. “If you are going to separate kids at the border, I’m going to kill his kids.”

For those of you that don’t know, Congressman Mast is a double amputee.  He lost both legs serving our nation overseas, and he has a young girl and two young boys that are all younger than 8.

Are you starting to understand why more good people don’t run for office in this country?

Now that President Trump has signed an executive order that will keep immigrant families together at the border, the left has got to come up with something else to keep the rancor going.  So now we are being told that President Trump is inhumane for “putting entire families in cages” at the border, when that is not true at all.

But it really doesn’t matter what the truth is – the key is to keep the narrative going.

We have already reached a point where a certain percentage of the population is not going to recognize the legitimacy of our government no matter who is sent to the White House.  Millions upon millions of Americans refer to Donald Trump as “not my president”, and there are millions of us that never accepted the legitimacy of the Obama presidency.

So who would the American people accept?

Someone in the middle?

Sadly, the truth is that Barack Obama and Donald Trump are “the middle” today.  There is no longer a single set of values that unites our nation, and America is becoming more deeply divided with each passing day.

The only thing that is really holding us back from mass rioting and chaos on a constant basis is our massively inflated debt-fueled standard of living.

As long as people have plenty of food to eat and lots of entertainment to keep them sedated, a complete and total societal meltdown is unlikely.

But if our food and entertainment were to be taken away, the American people are primed for the biggest temper tantrum in the history of our nation.

We have never had a president that is hated as much as President Trump, and the mainstream media keeps feeding that hatred on a daily basis.  Whatever goes wrong over the next few years will be blamed on him, and the moment a real crisis hits we will start to see cities burn all over the country.

The second president of the United States, John Adams, once made the following statement

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

Today, the American people are not very religious and they certainly are not moral.  Suicide rates are absolutely soaring, and we are very deeply unhappy as a nation.

It would be wonderful if we could unite behind the values that this nation was built upon, but we discarded those values long ago.

So now we face a very uncertain future, and it is only a matter of time before someone lights a spark that sets off mass societal unrest all across the United States.

really?:

The only reason any form of government works is because enough people buy into the narrative that the government is legitimate and should be respected.

since when is an armed gang of thugs pointing their guns at peoples' heads and telling them what to do, "legitimate"?

i've never agreed to be governed by anyone, i'm perfectly capable of governing myself.

adult human beings are not frightened children that need to be taken care of and watched after.

many people have been conned into thinking that society "needs" a group of oppressive armed thugs capable and willing to inflict violence, in order for people to behave themselves, which is, of course, false, and an affront to human dignity and decency.

this myth is what larken rose calls "the most dangerous superstition":

LOL I'll vote for you. Even a fucking mass murderer as president in 2020 is better than what we have now.

Or well, last time we had a mass murderer in office, trillions of dollars were handed over to a select few families. So maybe I should just go to some island and laugh at the brazilification of the world as my white children become demigods in the sea of brownness.

char_aznable: Folks, wait until they pull 9/11 part 2.

Conspiracy grows out of frustrations over reality. Conspiracies are exaggerations and distortions of reality, because reality doesn’t fit conservatives narratives.

The conservatives, for some reason that I don’t understand, cannot adjust/change their mode think.

Have you ever met a conservative telling that they were wrong?

If they are shown to be wrong, that’s when they double-down on the mistake.

Or, they blame on half dozen Jews.

I'm a gay progressive, actually. Conservatives are fucking retarded, what are they conserving? The jew world order? Fabulous. Also, do you really mean to suggest Stanley, Morgan, Goldman, Kuhn/Kohn/Cohn/Cohen, Oppenheimer, Rothschild, Rockefeller, Warburg, Spencer-Churchill, Stuart/Stewart, Planck, Smith, Jasper, Levy, Palmer, Gordon, Moore, Fitzgerald, Kennedy, Noble, Bennett, Forbes, Beresford, Bancroft, Barclay, Cabot, Higginson, Adams, Baker, Coffin, Cooper, Delano, Gardner, Otis, Quincy, Rice, Bush, Lehman, Tudor, Sassoon..Shermans, Clarkes, Royces, Lindsays, Raffles, Robinson, Pratt, Bartlett, Abraham, Guggenheim, Loeb, Strauss, Sach, Lazard, Seaf, Goldman, Schiff, Morgan, Schroder, Harriman are not jews or cryptos? That the court jew system and christians not being allowed to charge interest didn't lead to jewish supremacy? Fucking brazilians, you're trash. The reason americans are so outraged is because they don't want to see their country become your country.

edit: it also takes a really low IQ to not be able to figure out 9/11, especially with all the WTC7 footage. Any jagoff with an internet connection has the evidence to prove in a court that the event was manufactured by insiders, Americans are just as fucking stupid as the mexicans they hate.

Yes, from the left.

Antifa fags just leaked names, addresses and phone numbers of ICE agents.

Now where did they get those? From the fuckin Obama holdovers obviously.

Didn't that coon Fonda tell people to find ICE agents kids schools and go scare the shit out of them?

The only thing the left understands is FORCE, they will bring anarchy and chaos if not stopped now.

They have guns now .... didn't you see that John Brown Snowflake gathering with their daddy's guns?  It was intended as a video to intimidate anyone who doesn't agree with them ..... but it generated so much levity in anyone moderately proficient with firearms that they had to disable comments ;)

I look forward to the day that they open Pandora's Box ... and can't get it closed again.

The funny thing is that most of the group that thinks the government is the enemy under Trump is different from the group that thought the government was the enemy under Obama.  Obama, a POS enemy of the USA.

OBAMUNISM:  Weaponizing government to attack DemoRats' political opponents like you and me.

Chaos perhaps but hardly anarchy. I've been living in a state of anarchy for going on 10 years.

Anarchy - The word anarchy comes from the ancient Greek ἀναρχία (anarchia), which combines (a), "not, without" and ἀρχή (arkhi), "ruler, leader, authority." Thus, the term refers to a person or society "without rulers" or "without leaders".

Govern yourself accordingly.

Snyder is a very shallow thinker at best.

In order for any society to function, there must be some form of government.

That is the core sentence in this dumbass article.  I would like to see a debate between Snyder and James Corbett with that sentence as basis - true or false.  Corbett would knock him out in round 1.  Even I could name twenty well functioning societies currently and in history without "governments" as we know them in the west.  On the other hand, I can't think of a society whose government is not a predator of the people.

BTW Rep.Mast might think he lost his legs for our nation but the truth he could never deal with is that he lost his legs for the psychopathic bankers, the Bush Clinton crime families, and AIPAC.  At least the soldiers for the Gambinos are smart enough to know who they work for.

He's religious, so naturally he thinks government is necessary for society to function, as he puts it. Authoritarianism started and has been sustained for centuries by the religious. Government's only purpose is, generally, to police, nothing more. Snyder could never agree with that, so he has no answer to the decline he perceives.

This article reminds me of these quotes:

‘If you criticize policy, you are anti-American. That only happens in dictatorships’ – Noam Chomsky

“Brace yourself! The American Empire is over. The descent is going to be horrifying!” — Chris Hedges, 2012

“Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces.”— Sigmund Freud

“America is a mistake; a gigantic mistake, it is true, but nonetheless a mistake”

You can’t have a Republic when its citizens are ignorant.

Their governments leave most participants unsatisfied.

The (ownership system) are based in an untenable illusion.

Immorality, no less than morality, has at all times found support in religion.

“United States is becoming a failed state, and thus a danger to its own people and the world.” – Noam Chomsky, 2006.

“I do not think what we face is a problem. It is a predicament. And predicaments do not have solutions.” — Greg Machala, 2017

Back in the late 60's I admired Chomsky.  But when he came out supporting the 9/11 commission's official story, it turned from admiration to disgust.  While I have people in my family who can't wrap their heads around the 9/11 truth, Chomsky has a huge IQ and a solid basis in the physical sciences and critical thought.  That means he was covering up for the criminals and traitors.

Anyone who buys into the official yarn on 9/11 is either stupid or suspect.

Just like now, all those who are opposed to Trump's "Space Force" know the reality that we already have a "Space Force" only it's name is "Solar Warden" and has been up and running since at least 1985.  It was a black part of SDI. Trump's clearance doesn't go high enough to have the "need to know".

Anarchy has gotten a lot of bad press. That's because people don't understand what it really IS. They just assume mass chaos and mayhem would somehow ensue if someone wasn't 'in charge'.

Just like you said, it's an affront to human dignity and decency. The truth is, only lawless men need to be ruled, and it is always lawless men that call out the loudest for "a King", because THEY want to be the 'enforcers' for that King.

That whole 'wanting a King' thing is why the Biblical Jews always fucked up and ended up wandering off the reservation, so to speak. They just never got the message.

"The only reason any form of government works is because enough people buy into the narrative that the government is legitimate and should be respected."

I dont buy this at all. The only reason government works is because the majority of people are too busy & fearful to do anything about how a few families hold all the wealth and connections. The constant threat of taxation and debt, legal fees, jail/prison time is like a massive crushing weight.

The US populace has hated the government for a long time. But people see whistle blowers get their entire lives and the lives of their families ruined. They see protesters get shot/jailed/fucked up. They see everyone from the hood to the president popping pills, doing drugs, having affairs, etc.  They see the wealthy rape/kill/plunder and get away scot free time and time again. And of course, the media has most American's so confused that they think 'them terrorists' are the evil in the world (and not the guys signing $billion military boondoggles so their buddy can buy another $10mil mansion in DC).

Look at the recent news about the Tesla employee. He is a whistleblower and look what it got him: no job, $1 million suit, and accused of stealing company secrets which will probably bar him from working at any major company for life.

Government works (for now) because most people fear the threat of extreme violence that government agents can bring to bear.

The concept of losing everything, including their assets, freedom, and most other arbitrarily-honored Constitutional Rights keep most people from becoming belligerent or hostile towards the State Trooper who might pull them over for a moving violation.

Government is always backed up by the threat of extreme violence.

Or maybe its just the sectarian hate mongering aka mass very fake media and both parties.
Someone on very very fake news noted this but continued by comparing trump and children in care centers as just like Birkenau. Wolff was greedily nodding along.
So much for seeking to calm down the flaming....

nah the hate mongering will keep on escalating until there is a new civil war, this time with nukes. There just plain isnt any hope without eliminating democracy and all speech.

As smart as the author seems, why doesn't he understand we haven't been a Constitutional Republic since the implimentation of the illegal Administrative Proceedures Act of 1946. It completly usurped the rule of law and we've been in your slow motion crash ever since.

Your description is as accurate as it gets and I just wanted to add the context of how we were run off the road. The damn banking cartel grabbed the wheel and pulled hard to the right.

Well, I have some experience with really dangerous men. Really dangerous men give no advance warning of any kind to anyone. They just kill you or maybe they just fuck you up if they're only out for a little fun. Beta males do that bluster and threatening shit and then don't know what the fuck to do when they come up against someone that doesn't respond to that kind of shit. I don't know what today's crop of soy boys do. Maybe crawl into their safe space and hold their puppy. Not like there's anything wrong with holding a puppy. You know, the puppy might miss it's momma.

Not exactly true --  I understand those that don't understand how things work will down arrow the shit out of me.

But

Sales tax is charged to the individual buying the item - not the out of state business.

So if a guy living in South Dakota buys something online from a company in Texas - the Texas company doesn't pay the tax - they just have to collect it from the SD buyer and give it to the state.

If the people of a state don't agree with charging sales tax on out of state purchases they can vote the current people out of office and elect people that do not want to collect this tax - and want to change the law allowing for no tax.

So how is that taxation without representation?  It is clearly not.

The tax still sucks - but that is another matter.
