House Approves Resolution Demanding DOJ/FBI Docs

The House Judiciary Committee approved for the first time a resolution Tuesday demanding that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein turn over all requested documents regarding the FBI’s handling of the Russia investigation during the presidential election after seven days or face possible impeachment or contempt.

The decision to move forward with the resolution came after a year of battles with the Justice Department and FBI to turn over requested documents. The committee voted on party lines 15-11 to pass the resolution directing Rosenstein to comply within the next seven days or face the consequences.

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, who has been one of the lawmakers at the frontlines of the committee’s investigation, said the resolution is the result of the frustration felt among lawmakers conducting oversight. He noted that it will be up to House Republican leaders to decide whether or not to take it to the full House for a vote.

“If they don’t comply with the resolution they know the remedies the House has, contempt and impeachment,” said Jordan.

“If we don’t get that information entitled to us, everybody knows that we’ll do what we have to do to get it done.”

Jordan and Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., were the authors of the resolution. Both members have criticized Rosenstein and the FBI for failing to deliver documents. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-CA, has also been fighting the Justice Department for documents and has threatened as well to hold Rosenstein in contempt or impeachment if they are not produced.

The resolution does not include a penalty but Jordan noted that the lawmakers are prepared to file impeachment or contempt against Rosenstein. The resolution is expected to sit on the House floor until members return from their break after the next week.

Rosenstein, who is known for his quick temper with lawmakers during negotiations, has stonewalled numerous members of Congress questioning the Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged collusion between President Trump’s campaign and the Russians.

On Thursday, Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray are expected to testify before the House Judiciary Committee, where they will be asked questions regarding their failure to comply with the oversight committees.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said last week they are not taking contempt charges off the table. He told reporters on Tuesday “we do expect full compliance very, very soon, and if we do not get that then we will keep every single option available to us.”

Skip the contempt charges and go straight to impeachment... We have seen with Eric Holder that holding them in contempt does fuck all... Put some teeth in the charges and force the FBI / DOJ to comply or GTFO... This is an abject lesson in how such a small group of well-placed fucktards in the top positions of government can topple the entire system... Sedition doesn't even come close to describing what the top layer of the Obozo administration carried out over the 8 years of their reign...

Oh indeed. Start with Rosenstien with it being implicit that all those that block the process will swiftly* suffer the same fate. Also implicit is the fact that warranting impeachment may also warrant criminal prosecution.

Criminals- we put criminals in charge since Bush the elder architect of the JFK assassination, then Bubba the filth,followed by Bush the younger-who choreographed 9-11. All this led to Bush in blackface straight out of Chicago.

Has Trump been shown the shot heard around the world . Sturgis, Martinez, and Gonzales may be gone but the Company is still populated by criminals. Look at the fine job they have done eliminating generations of Kennedys. From the time of the Dulles brothers to the new century the MIC criminals have ruled as the citizens stopped caring. The American people used to be better than this.

I'm insisting on guillotines. With great honor (supposedly, as "a government official") comes great trust. 

This is not like a fruit vendor selling us worm filled apples by mistake, this is a concerted effort of deception and violation of law by those government officials and as I've said before, we will have law or we will have no law and let the chips fall where they may.

I'm good either way but I have a preference ;-)

Talking of which, why doesn't Trump intervene? As the Head of the Executive Branch he has the Constitutional right either to declassify any and all documents or simply instruct Rosenbergstein to release the requested documents to Congress. Failure to do so would then be insubordination and Rosensteinberg should be fired.

Off hand I would say the political optics of firing two top officials is too much, he's already fired one high ranking official, Comey.

It's unquestionable Trump does have the Constitutional authority to fire anyone he wants in the Executive Branch but many believe (as do I) firing the number two at the DoJ would be portrayed by the Alinsky Press as a "Soviet-style purge" and of course, there are a lot of anti-Trumpers and flat out commies trying to bait him to do that. 

I'm beginning to appreciate the other way it's being done (Strzok for example) was left there to twist in the wind, to endure the sideway looks he got just walking down the hall. 

What I'm trying to say is, just because one has that prestigious title doesn't necessarily garner the loyalty & trust of subordinates it should when there is that cloud of suspicion hanging over their head, Sessions endured the same thing.

She can't be impeached.  Representatives can only get expelled.  Even when a congressman gets expelled, they are still technically that state's representative.  Once someone is expelled, it's up to the state to replace them with another representative.  IIRC, during the civil war era, there were a couple of instances where a member was expelled, and the state sent the same person back as the new representative, causing some serious issues.

ALL federal officers (and elected officials) can be impeached by the House, then tried in the Senate. 

"The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the >>>sole<<< Power of Impeachment."

"The Senate shall have the >>>sole<<< Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy >>>any<<< Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law."

Its pretty much there in black & white ;-)

But it's always a double edged sword to contemplate I guess, like Obama, I often wondered if he could not been a plant, a mole, a poison apple, sent into the midst of the leftwing to render them impotent & defeated for the rest of our lives. 

Sorta like Burnie Marx making another million dollars, this now, two years in a row!

As an aside, to camp in front of Casa Nmewn is to say I wouldn't see them until I drove out and my deed says the road they are camping on is my property (and the county tax collectors office agrees because it taxes me for ten acres) so actually (legally) I could ask them to get off "my road" and if they didn't I could have them arrested.

Or just shoot the bastards for trespassing after being given warning ;-)

Why does my gut tell me that the fact that Jordan et. al haven't yet kicked in the door means that they won't.  Certainly Trey Gowdy's wife learned years ago that he won't perform.  Now I am wondering about Jordan.  My heart breaks.

My head is telling me that they are playing 3D chess.  You know.....maybe drag it out until September when everybody is back from the beach and then pounce.  Need to keep it in the new for just two months vice four if started today.  But then again....J6P can only remember last Tuesday.

My gut is usually right....and my heart is broken.

Exactly, and as said above, "The farce is strong" with this one. Talk about waffling. If you really have the guts to do it after so much time of talking about doing it, why don't you just put it in the bill: "Documents must arrive at congress within seen days of this notice, or impeachment hearings will begin the following day." Instead, they're still talking about what they're going to talk about doing while they're also going to sit and listen to him make excuses for why he isn't doing what they're telling him to do.

Not to jinx it here (lol) would be really hard to blow this strong hand being held, it's an ace high royal flush.

There is now (even admittedly by progs) zero Trump-Russian collusion, we have Obama state actors submitting false evidence to FISA courts in order to use government assets to surveil a presidential candidate before & after election, Obama government employees who showed extreme prejudice toward Trump & favor to Hillary, Bill meeting with Lowrenta on an airport tarmac BEFORE the Bureau of Matters Director takes the unprecedented step of clearing her publicly of KNOWN violations of US Code along with fired/retired/demoted government counter-intel agents and bosses under active investigation for criminal conduct.

Like I say, not trying to jinx it here but it's a pretty strong hand and everybody in this entire world knows who's holding the flush ;-)
