"Thanos Did Nothing Wrong"? 1000s Embrace The Population-Control Philosophy Of Marvel's Most-Twisted Super-Villain

Authored by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog,

“Thanos did nothing wrong” has become one of the most common mantras on the Internet in recent days, and it just sparked one of the biggest events in Reddit history, but most people still don’t understand what all of the commotion is about.  So let me try to break it down very simply.

In the most recent Avengers movie, the story centers around a super-villain named Thanos that intends to wipe out half of all life in the universe.  He does not want to do this just to be evil, but rather his plan is to get population growth under control so that those that remain will be able to enjoy happy, sustainable lives.

If that sounds uncomfortably close to something that you have heard before, that is because it is.  Population control is a major theme on the radical left, and many of them truly believe that humanity’s population must be greatly reduced “to stop global warming” and “to save the planet”.  In the film, Thanos truly believes that he is doing the right thing, but since he is the villain everyone in the audience is theoretically supposed to be rooting for him to be defeated.  But instead of being universally hated, Thanos has become the big breakout star from this movie.  Large numbers of people are insisting that “Thanos did nothing wrong” and are embracing his population control philosophy.

Of course population control is not exactly a new idea.  It was one of the main reasons why ancient civilizations conducted human sacrifice rituals, and several centuries ago it was given a more modern spin by Thomas Malthus.  So the truth is that the philosophy that Thanos is promoting is simply “repackaged” for a new generation, and this is a point that G. Shane Morris made in an article earlier this year…

“Infinity War” casts its big baddie as a champion of yet another progressive pet cause: Population control. Thanos, who has teased audiences with sinister grins and cryptic statements in years of after-credit scenes, has finally revealed his true motive: He wants to wipe out half the galaxy’s population to make sure the other half has plenty to eat.

We watch during his obligatory villain speech as Thanos explains why he needs the power of the Infinity Stones: to teleport from planet to planet, killing billions in order to defuse the population bomb that desolated his home world. He does so on the assumption that Thomas Malthus first propounded: that each species has limited resources at its disposal, and the only way to keep from exhausting them is to check population growth.

The movie has been out for several months now, but the debate about Thanos has really heated up in recent days.  July 9th was one of the biggest days in Reddit history, and it was because of a “mass culling” on the r/ThanosDidNothingWrongsubreddit.  This “mass culling” was actually called for by members of the subreddit in order to “honor” Thanos.  The following comes from Business Insider

Like the “Avengers: Infinity War” villain himself, the Thanos subreddit r/ThanosDidNothingWrong sought perfect balance among its more than 700,000 members, up from the 200,000 subscribers it had last week.

The online community began banning over 300,000 of its members at 5:00 PM PDT sharp on Monday, in a purge that was actually planned weeks in advance — a purge that was, indeed, instigated by its own members, who cheered the culling as honoring their hero, Thanos.

Originally, the moderators of the subreddit were hesitant when the idea was first suggested.  Back on June 29th, one of them asked, “You seriously want us to ban half of the subreddit?”

The members of the subreddit kept insisting, and the idea quickly became viral.  Once word got out that there would actually be a “mass culling”, membership in the subreddit climbed to more than 700,000

Thus the great project was born. The moderators of r/ThanosDidNothingWrong had to get permission from Reddit admins to go through with the ban, and then they had to automate the process. As word of the upcoming ban spread, hundreds of thousands of Reddit users flocked to join r/ThanosDidNothingWrong just so they’d have a chance to get ousted. By the time ban day rolled around, over 700,000 users had subscribed — making the culling by far the largest “dusting,” or mass ban, in Reddit history.

And this event got so big that even some high profile members of the Avengers movie team got directly involved

When the process began late Sunday night, it was making headlines. Infinity War directors the Russo brothers even took part in the exercise, with Anthony Russo joining in the sub’s preliminary festivities. The ban process was also live-streamed on Reddit’s official Twitch account — and none other than Thanos himself, an inexplicably shirtless Josh Brolin, was on hand to snap the ban into existence.

I understand that a lot of young people are just having fun with this, but ultimately population control is not something that we ever want to celebrate.

There really are global elitists that consider “human overpopulation” to be a “plague” on the planet that needs to be dealt with.  They are truly convinced that climate change is the number one threat that the globe is facing, and they have identified human population growth as the primary driver of climate change.

And so they really do want to reduce the population in order to “save the planet”.  For much more on this, please see my previous article entitled “46 Population Control Quotes That Show How Badly The Elite Want To Wipe Us All Out”.

About 50 years ago, Paul Ehrlich wrote a book entitled “The Population Bomb” in which he breathlessly warned about what would happen during the decades to come if humanity’s population continued to grow.

Well, humanity’s population did continue to grow, and none of his prognostications turned out to be accurate.

But now the same philosophy has been rebranded and repackaged for a new generation, and young people are eating it up.

When a substantial portion of the population decides that the solution to our problems is to get rid of large numbers of people, that sets the stage for mass genocide.  We have seen this happen before in human history, and it must not happen again.

TPTB using all methods including predictive programming with Hollywood movies, to sell us their depopulation agenda. I watched this movie knowing this, one detail was too obviously though. When Thanos said “all will be depopulated fair rich and poor”. In reality it will be far from fair. The next depopulation will be “ Survival of the richest”

All immigration should come to a halt. Overpopulation is the worlds number one issue. Until those countries that continue to grow their populations are forced to deal with their own population problems they will continue to breed irresponsibly. Clearly, assertions that the Earth might be able to support a population of 10, or even 15 billion people for an indefinite period of time at a standard of living superior to the present are not only cruelly misleading but almost certainly false. Notwithstanding our current addiction to continued and uninterrupted economic growth, humanity must recognize that there are finite physical, biological, and ecological limits to the Earth's long-term sustainable carrying capacity. And to judge by the growing concerns about maintaining the quality, stability, and/or sustainability of the Earth's atmosphere, water, forests, croplands, fisheries, and so on, there is little if any doubt that many of these limits will soon be reached, if they haven't already been surpassed. Since at some point the damage stemming from the mutually reinforcing effects of excessive human reproduction and over-consumption of resources could well become irreversible.

What you don't seem to understand is that there are natural limits on population growth, as well.
Earth's maximum population has been estimated at eleven billion, though it can support many times that number.

Why the world population won’t exceed 11 billion | Hans Rosling (16:36)

"Clearly, assertions that the Earth might be able to support a population of 10, or even 15 billion people for an indefinite period of time at a standard of living superior to the present are not only cruelly misleading but almost certainly false."

I would very much like to see some evidence of this, but you don't have any. Nobody does... because it isn't true.

"Population control is a major theme on the radical left, and many of them truly believe that humanity's population must be greatly reduced "to stop global warming" and "to save the planet".

"The radical left"?

There is no real "left" nor "right". They are simply two sides of the exact same coin. Every year the Bilderberg group meets somewhere in the world at around the beginning of June, and their sole purpose is to apportion "thought packages" to the "left" and "right". For example, the "global warming" package was distributed to the "left", and the "no global warming" package was delivered to the "right" two years later. This way, the "left" and "right" are divided up, and can never agree on anything. Divide and conquer.

Population is self-limiting. at some point the density is so great we become welded into a single organism to be eaten by virus X. only those away from the bulk will live.

Disease X is coming. Spontaneously, or by design.

Sure as sunrise.

Recently, a new disease has emerged that causes sterility.

Chortle, chortle, guffaw, LOL.  More controllable Africans?  Who's  out of their freepin' mind?  Dig up the statistics on violent theft, rape, gratuitous murder, rioting, armed revolt, domestic violence, honor killings, you name it in Africa.  Hint: the blacker they are, the less capable they are of maintaining a civilized society.  And thus it ever was.

The reason there’s no hard data on overpopulation is because we haven’t hit that number yet.

This is a silly argument, and similar to the argument against climate change.  Once the evidence is irrefutable the damage will already be done, and the argument will change to ‘it’s too late so why bother doing anything’. Another dumb argument.

Science cannot ever absolutely prove something, that’s not how it works.  It can prove what isn’t true with a null hypothesis and everything else is a theory, you will never have absolute proof of anything.  Newton and Einstein are constantly being challenged and their theories are used in all modern engineering and make things like the internet possible, but have not been conclusively proved.

Either way this article has misrepresented the sides.  There are libertarians and people who understand our economic system that believe population growth is necessary for economic growth, vs the environmentalists who believe our planet has a hard limit to how many people it can support.  I’d put Soros and republicans together on this issue and put them in the first camp.

"...you have no control over your reproduction anyway."

Are you advocating rape?
Of course I do.
1) I can say no. (That must sound familiar to you.)
2) I can afford condoms.
3) If all else fails, I possess a coat hanger and the physical strength to use it.

"sophmoric ego"
I'm not sure how an ego can be sophmoric, but then neither are you, you semi-literate gash. Par for the course in this lowest common denominator world. Did the trees tell you to say that?

Given that you assume you know so much about me without ever having met or spoken, you must be a woman.
Q: Why are women's brains so much more valuable than men's brains?
A: In a word, scarcity.

"And any woman who decides to breed by you, either a) has an IQ under 100..."
Are you hitting on me? Sorry, I don't date cunts.

But seriously, thanks very much for sharing your concerns about what I wrote and offering your thoughts about alternatives I may not have considered. Oh, wait. You didn't, did you? You just came out of the gates raging and insulting me which means you must be a leftist. You have my condolences.

Well, since you couldn't come up with a counter-argument of any kind, I will have to assume that despite hating what I wrote, you must agree with it. Either that or you realize that if you were to debate me on this point, or any point, for that matter, you would be eviscerated. Maybe you're just out of tissue and didn't want to risk the waterworks.
Go buy some shoes or something. At least you'd be contributing to the economy. You certainly aren't contributing anything to the knowledge base.

That was fun; let's do it again, shall we?
Toodles.

Criticized by those who learned how to use their brains without being dumbed down by the marxist school system.  The marxist let shit out like this to the sheeple...every now and then....so the sheeple are fooled into believing they really are being taught something.

After they dumb you down to an acute degree, then the simplest things really impress you.....I mean them.....no I mean you.

Watched that shit years ago.  How's it working for ya?

Why don't you go and check population growth since then.  Why don't you go see how many countries population is in decline.

Yeah, math is simple and absolute.....but it can still be used by dickheads to prove a point....THAT DOESN'T EXIST.

"Let's say your growth rate is a constant 5%...."  Where did that come from?  That's right dick head, it is number pulled out of Mr. Professor's ass.

What amazes me is this guy is so revered.....goes to show when you get a dumb ass in a position of leadership, all the really dumbasses will follow him.  My grandfather who wasn't even high school educated told me about this "7% rule" when I was a teenager.  What this video, professor, and his class demonstrate is how stupid this "educated" country has really become.  That in school they don't teach you how to think and use your brain, then when some old codger comes up with some basic math and applies common sense you are all enamored.  Pathetic!

Well, news flash ladies, population growth is not a constant.....never has been......never will be.  It is a little more complicated than an ambiguous number pulled out of some old fart's ass.  I don't agree with the all the assessments of this report but it demonstrates there are variables and complexities that illustrate that "bacteria in a bottle" can't be used as an "empirical example" of world population growth.  Do any of the bacteria die?  Do the bacteria have wars?  Do they have famines?  Do they have diseases?

https://ourworldindata.org/world-population-growth

No one knows the future.  We get a couple of nukes going off, a famine, a drought that causes a famine, an energy crisis, a super bug, a disruption in the food supply chain......and the population will adjust real quick.  None of you bitches need to be telling any others how many kids they should be having.

Since that bullshit video "changed your life", I am really getting ready to blow you piss ant mind.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIoW-Vb5drI

You idiots better be glad humans don't live by "survival of the fittest".....you'd of been dead long ago.  But, hey!  No worries, we will keep caring you dumb asses.

What are you saying exactly, that the population of the world has not increased? or are you arguing over the rate of increase??? If so then that puts you in the same camp as the Libtards that Bartlett destroys in his lecture (its pretty funny to watch)

Just reading through your list up there I see that you address many of the points raised by Bartlett in his lecture. It must have rubbed off on you since you are almost quoting him in your second to last paragraph. Weird.

Bartlett is not Marxist in his message. I would love to know how you arrived at that conclusion??? If anything he is has the opposite message. His simple message is that of personal responsibility. That following the Marxist ideals are equivalent to virtue signaling and will lead to a disaster for most people. Eventually we will have to pick from the list you provided to correct our folly. (again, I think you lifted your list directly from his video)

"  We get a couple of nukes going off, a famine, a drought that causes a famine, an energy crisis, a super bug, a disruption in the food supply chain......and the population will adjust real quick."

Yes.  You ARE aware that that is exactly what tends to happen when the population of any species exceeds the ecological carrying capacity?  Except for the nukes, of course, which is why some of us would like to ban them.

The population is already adjusting.  Or haven't you ever wondered why we have such a sudden upswing in declared homosexuals and other reproductive anomalies?  The ancient Greeks lived on a barren peninsula that couldn't support an increase in population.  They compensated by deliberate infanticide(mostly female) and then allowed the men to release their sexual needs with each other. Oh, and they fought a lot. They generally had a war or a plague every time the food supply tanked because of bad weather.

Some  people think that it would be better to manage the necessary die-back in a controlled and organized fashion.  Which would no doubt assure that they and their fellow rich friends and relatives survived.  But one way or another, the population WILL decrease.  The only questions are how, and how much. Since the U.S., Europe, Russia, and China have all managed to stabilize their populations, the major problems now are Nigeria and India.  India is at least making an effort, and widespread sex-selective abortion may do the trick. Which leaves Nigeria . . .  where of course many people believe that efforts at population control are an evil, racist plot.  But not to worry.  If they do nothing, they will collapse in civil war punctuated with famine and plague.  And maybe next time, the Ebola will get out in more than a few isolated cases.

I posted that video here before you were even a member.
Let me explain something to you which that video does not explain.

POPULATION CANNOT INCREASE EXPONENTIALLY FOREVER.

Population growth depends on resources. If that population grows too large and uses too many resources, the population falls. It is a self-correcting problem.

The video is full of important concepts and is one of my favourites, for sure, but it is a math video, not an anthropology video.

As with martial arts, knowing just a little about science or stats can be more dangerous than not knowing anything at all.

"POPULATION CANNOT INCREASE EXPONENTIALLY FOREVER."

No shit dumbass. That was the point of the entire lecture. (who could actually watch it and not gleen that info???) He explains this point very well. Maybe what is escaping you is what you state as a "population fall."

Sometimes the "self correcting system" results in the population going to zero. or something close to it...I love your little dig at me that I don't know as much science as you...which is a lame argument from authority...It is more than likely that the opposite is true as a double major bio/botany grad school title of dr. and a long career in medicine... you might have a similar background...but I doubt it based on what you have written.

Obviously the subtleties of this are lost on you and I am not going to explain it to you but for others who are interested...

The same math can be applied to economies around the world and taken all together forms a great foundation for understanding world geo-politics but you need to be able to process more than one variable or it will likely fall flat as it apparently has with Globe-head above.

"No shit dumbass. That was the point of the entire lecture. (who could actually watch it and not gleen that info???)"

1) It's glean, not gleen.
2) The assumption which underpins the entire lecture is that population grows exponentially without end, which is why Denver would need forty-five (or whatever the number was) more water treatment plants. It is why the bacteria need to find more jars. He does not put a limit on growth, he talks about what would happen if it did grow exponentially, forever. Who could actually watch it and not glean that info???
3) Having a degree is no measure of intelligence. I've got mine, but I don't need to flaunt them. I'm literate and have comprehension skills. You, on the other hand, need to give your tutor a callback.
4) "...what you state as a "population fall."" I did not use that term in that way. More reading comprehension problems.
5) "Sometimes the "self correcting system" results in the population going to zero." That must be exceedingly rare. You've probably memorized an example or two, but I doubt it is statistically significant. I would be interested in hearing about any such cases, though.
6) "I love your little dig at me that I don't know as much science as you..." I have no idea what you know, scientifically speaking; I can only base my opinion on what you wrote.
7) "Globe-head" Hahahahaha. That's the World Bank logo over crossbones, you ignorant dipstick. It represents World Bank piracy. Get it? This is a financial website, after all, not a gardening club.

Where do you even start...

First, let me apologize to the for invoking a ray of sunlight with a collecting of knowledge. Either way, you gleaned no gleen.

You actually cleared things up for everyone. You are incorrect about the assumptions of the entire lecture and you even provide evidence for it in your own posts. His assertion is that populations don't increase forever due to all sorts of reasons. That exponential growth is problematic in and of itself and that few even understand the math behind what they parrot. Nowhere in the lecture does he assert that populations grow forever. Even you don't believe that...He provided a list that you quoted that illustrates the various ways a population can decrease....

What he did say or imply is that the systems that we rely on, political, environmental and structural are dependent on exponential growth and that the people who parrot the virtues of growth in various realms do not understand it.

The funny thing is that you agree with me and Prof Bartlett but for some reason you are in hysterics over the issue. regarding your degrees and education/intelligence etc that you brought up...trust me, you are not flaunting them. You are all over the place and I would just suggest that you collect yourself and start over.

Are you stoned?

"His assertion is that populations don't increase forever due to all sorts of reasons."
THAT HAS BEEN MY POSITION SINCE MY VERY FIRST POST
This is from the first line of the first comment I made on the subject: "...there are natural limits on population growth..."
Eleven billion is the limit.

"Nowhere in the lecture does he assert that populations grow forever."
Wrong. Read between the lines.
He used continuous exponential growth as the underlying assumption in his examples, all of them, from lift tickets to peak oil.

"The funny thing is that you agree with me and Prof Bartlett but for some reason you are in hysterics over the issue."
1) I do not agree with you.
2) I agree with Bartlett's math, not his underlying assumptions.
3) How am I hysterical? Is it because I addressed each point of contention separately, explaining each one clearly?
4) How does being hysterical make one a woman, exactly?

"You are all over the place..."
Easy to think that of someone when you don't understand what is going on.
Try to keep up. I am getting embarrassed for you, you binary twit.
