Establishment Democrats are starting to freak out over Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was immediately branded the "new face" of the Democratic party after her upset primary victory over the fourth most powerful Democrat in Congress, Joe Crowley.
The problem? According to CNN's editor-at-large Chris Cillizza, Ocasio-Cortez is far from ready to lead the party. And as you'll read below, the "Abolish ICE" movement she champions is now holding mock assassinations of President Trump.
Ocasio-Cortez could well be a future leader of the party and, at present, represents the beating heart of its liberal, activist wing. But she is not the perfect politician. She is not the person who has the magic formula to reverse the Trump presidency or to win the ongoing fight over the future direction of the party in 2020 and beyond...
...putting too much on her too soon is not only bad for Ocasio-Cortez but also for the party. -CNN
Between Ocasio-Cortez's breathless support of open-borders and her embarassing knowledge gaps on subjects such as the Israel-Palestine conflict and her own party's platform, the left is in a panic over the credentials and intellect of their "rising star."
All sorts of Democrats are sounding the alarm. They seem to get what Ocasio-Cortez’s pseudo-Marxist agenda represents for the party.
They range from the former speaker, Nancy Pelosi, to Congressmen Alcee Hastings of Florida (“meteors fizz out”) to Bill Pascrell of New Jersey (“she ain’t gonna make friends”), to name a few.

Former Democratic Senator and Vice Presidential candidate Joe Lieberman even penned a scathing indictment of Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez last week, dismantling the Democratic Socialist's platform in a Tuesday Wall Street Journal op-ed.
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America, whose platform, like hers, is more Socialist than Democratic. Her dreams of new federal spending would bankrupt the country or require very large tax increases, including on the working class. Her approach foresees government ownership of many private companies, which would decimate the economy and put millions out of work.
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez didn’t speak much about foreign policy during the primary, but when she did, it was from the DSA policy book—meaning support for socialist governments, even if they are dictatorial and corrupt (Venezuela), opposition to American leadership in the world, even to alleviate humanitarian disasters (Syria), and reflexive criticism of one of America’s great democratic allies (Israel). -Joe Lieberman via WSJ
Ocasio-Cortez's latest gaffe came on Friday - as the socialist mixed up her political colors while stumping in Kansas for a congressional Democrat's campaign with Bernie Sanders - where the two declared their socialist agenda is now "mainstream."
During offstage comments, a bubbly Ocasio-Cortez exclaims that they will "flip this seat red in November!"- which was later tweeted by Sanders' social media team:
Did Ocasio-Cortez mean Republican-red? Or perhaps she free-associated to the red adopted by her Democratic Socialists of America and Antifa?
Which brings us to the disturbing mock-assassination of Donald Trump staged by the "Abolish ICE" group.
Abolish ICE and their "Occupy ICE" protests emerged in June to protest the Trump administration's zero-tolerance policy of enforcing existing immigration laws. The group has been championed by Ocasio-Cortez throughout her short political career.
In a Monday interview with Democracy Now's Amy Goodman, the Democratic Socialist declared: "We have to occupy all of it ... We need to occupy every airport. We need to occupy every border. We need to occupy every ICE office until those kids are back with their parents, period."
That said - the group is becoming increasingly violent in their rhetoric. As Far Left Watch reports, Abolish ICE staged a disturbing beheading of a candy-filled Trump effigy, which the socialists fittingly swooped in to grab as soon as "Trump's" head came off.
Via Far Left Watch:
One of the biggest organizations behind this nationwide campaign to Abolish ICE is the Democratic Socialists of America, a far-left political organization whose leadership openly endorses communism.
Since the launch of this campaign, far-left extremist groups have occupied and shut down public roadways, they have doxed and threatened ICE employees and their family members, and they have attacked a GOP Headquarters in Nebraska and vandalized it with “Abolish ICE” graffiti. Continuing this trend of violent rhetoric and actions, the “Abolish ICE PDX” group recently held a mock public execution in which they decapitated an effigy of President Donald Trump using a makeshift guillotine. As we have previously reported, this theme of wishing to publicly execute ideological opponents borrows from the French Revolution and is alarmingly prevalent in far-left circles.
Here is the four minute video of this mock execution:
With each passing day we are witnessing more and more violence from the far-left. Violence that was once opposed by the more mainstream elements of the left is now being ignored and in some instances even encouraged. The establishment left's alarm bells over Ocasio-Cortez will likely grow in coming months. On Saturday, AP noted in an article entitled Democratic Socialism Rising In The Age Of Trump," that the DSA is attracting hoards of young liberals chimping out over the President.
A week ago, Maine Democrat Zak Ringelstein wasn’t quite ready to consider himself a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, even if he appreciated the organization’s values and endorsement in his bid to become a U.S. senator.
Three days later, he told The Associated Press it was time to join up. He’s now the only major-party Senate candidate in the nation to be a dues-paying democratic socialist.
Ringelstein’s leap is the latest evidence of a nationwide surge in the strength and popularity of an organization that, until recently, operated on the fringes of the liberal movement’s farthest left flank. As Donald Trump’s presidency stretches into its second year, democratic socialism has become a significant force in Democratic politics. Its rise comes as Democrats debate whether moving too far left will turn off voters. -AP
“I stand with the democratic socialists, and I have decided to become a dues-paying member,” Ringelstein told AP. “It’s time to do what’s right, even if it’s not easy.”
There are currently 42 people running for federal, state and local offices across 20 states who have the formal endorsement of the Democratic Socialists of America, according to the organization.
As AP also notes, the there is "little distinction between the terms “democratic socialism” and “socialism” in the group’s literature."
While Ringelstein and other DSA-backed candidates promote a “big-tent” philosophy, the group’s constitution describes its members as socialists who “reject an economic order based on private profit” and “share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality and non-oppressive relationships.” -AP
Considering socialism's failure each and every time it's been attempted, it's hard to see how the DSA's rise will help the DNC regain leadership in D.C. Then again, stranger things have happened.
