War Is A Racket: After 17 Years And Billions Wasted, US Seeks Peace With Taliban

Afghanistan, long acknowledged to be America's "forgotten war", has finally returned to the news of late. But this time, in a shocking twist on the now 17-year long conflict, the US is negotiating with the Taliban.

Perhaps this is why the mainstream media has by and large not given this bombshell story the coverage it deserves? Or do the major networks feel the American public has long ago stopped paying attention and will therefore yawn at any headlines containing the words 'US Troops/Afghanistan'?

As Daniel McAdams explains, last week US State Department officials met with Taliban leaders in Qatar. At the request of the Taliban, the US-backed Afghan government was not invited. The officials discussed ceasefires and an end to the war.

Meanwhile, the US inspector general charged with monitoring US spending on Afghanistan reconstruction has reported that since 2008, the US has completely wasted at the least $15.5 billion. He believes that's just the tip of the iceberg, though.

On Sunday, Reuters had this report on the latest surprising developments:

A meeting between a senior U.S. diplomat and Taliban representatives in Doha last week to discuss a possible ceasefire ended with “very positive signals” and a decision to hold more meetings, people with knowledge of the talks said on Sunday.

The meeting between a delegation led by Alice Wells, deputy assistant secretary in the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, and Taliban representatives was first reported in The Wall Street Journal but has not been officially confirmed.

According to one Taliban official, who said he was part of a four-member delegation, there were “very positive signals” from the meeting, which he said was conducted in a “friendly atmosphere” in a Doha hotel.

Could we be witnessing the very beginning stages of a negotiated face-saving exit from this nearly two decade long American quagmire in central Asia?

The prospect is discussed in today's Liberty Report:

This disaster is unfolding like Vietnam. More and more reinforcements and then the Pentagon gives up after mega billions wasted, generals promoted, and contractors made fat. The entire SVN govt that couldn't escape was sent off to re-education camps. Same or worse will happen to the Afghan govt we installed.

This should go down in history as an example to why politicians should never be in full control of the military. These limp dick fuckups have been using our military for their private bullshit wars for absolutely no good reason. As long as immoral politicians control it, it will be used immorally to the detriment of the nation. Eisenhower knew the MIC was going to get out of control. And now it will be almost impossible to stop it from bleeding the entire country dead dry. I think the only thing able to stop the MIC would be a defeat on such a massive scale, the US would have no option but total surrender.

Jackasses bray on and on that Eisenhower warned us about the military industrial complex. Eisenhower warned about that in his farewell address. He had had eight years to do something about the problem (his years as president) and did nothing. Did he do anything to resolve or mitigate the problem from January 1953 to January 1961? No! It appears not.

18 years in Afghanistan and trillions of dollars wasted, who knows how many people killed....

All for what? Poking around at Iran, Russia and China? What a fucking wasteful disgrace. The hubris and illusion of "winning" to line the pockets of the MIC and some foreign policy stink tanks. People need to hang, but American society is far too degenerate and broken to prosecute these scum suckers.

But, seriously. The CIA makes trillions smuggling heroin into the 'stans' and into Russia. This supplements their operating budget and their salaries. This was one of the reasons they went after Nixon for ending the Vietnam War. They were getting rich smuggling heroine back into the states and selling weapons to uncle sam to kill vietnamese peasants. Same shit, different decade. Americans fell for it a second time.

As the world matured, communications improved, and as people traveled more many of us hoped the catalyst for war would diminish. Instead, with new technology, mankind has only expanded our abilities to spread death and destruction.

National pride, political agendas, religious and ethnic hatreds are some of the biggest roadblocks to world peace. The article below delves into why we continue to pursue warfare when it has proven to be a pathetic option in bringing about positive change,

Bush rejects Taliban offer to hand Bin Laden over

President George Bush rejected as "non-negotiable" an offer by the Taliban to discuss turning over Osama bin Laden if the United States ended the bombing in Afghanistan.

Returning to the White House after a weekend at Camp David, the president said the bombing would not stop, unless the ruling Taliban "turn [bin Laden] over, turn his cohorts over, turn any hostages they hold over." He added, "There's no need to discuss innocence or guilt. We know he's guilty."

Urban Roman, I presume you are referring to what Silverstein was recorded saying about Building 7 on 9/11/2001.

Unless one is able and willing to recognize that the events on 9/11/2001 were inside job, false flag attacks, deliberately designed to enable invading Afghanistan, etc., then one is NOT in the right ball park of geopolitical analysis.

That War Is A Racket is correct to a degree which is no longer able to be completely comprehended. Moreover, that includes the similar ways that Class Warfare Is A Racket. Staging series of false flag attacks in order to start series genocidal wars, along with preparing to impose democidal martial law, have become manifestations of the history where war was organized crime on larger and larger scales to the point where one can not longer fully imagine how astronomically amplified those runaway criminal insanities have become ...

I agree but there is a very powerful (((GROUP))) that threatens to do exactly that only to the entire earth....

"What is Israel to do?...Israel has been building nuclear weapons for years...What would serve the Jew-hating world better in repayment for thousands of years of massacres but a nuclear winter?...The ultimate justice?" Professor David Perlmutter - The Los Angeles Times April 7, 2002

"Martin Van Creveld, a prominent professor of military history at the prestigious Hebrew University in Jerusalem, told a Dutch magazine the following in 2002: 'We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets for our air force.” He went on to say “Our armed forces, however, are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen before Israel goes under.” (The original interview appeared in the Dutch weekly magazine:Elsevier, 2002, no. 17, p. 52-53, April 27th, 2002)."

I think you missed his point entirely.

Billy never said anything about the fact Osama bin Laden had nothing to do with 911 because his point itself should have been enough. ie that the media trumped up Osama as being the ring leader (which we know is bullshit)... Taliban offers to give him up (probably just to get the US out of their backyard they were willing to sacrifice him) yet Bush say "nah sorry fellas, not interested". That alone should tell you something.

u know whats fucked up? the taliban said bin laden is probably in pakistan, and the bush admin said they were lying

severl yrs later... seal team 6 finds bin laden in pakistan, kills him, and the navy dumps his body in da ocean

:P

now trump has to convince the taliban to not do business w the chinks...or else they'll strip mine the place like they originally negotiated in august of 2001

Bin Laden was dead years before Seal Team 6 staged whatever happened in Abbotabad, Pakistan. Neighbours of the compound told a completely different story of the events and who lived there. There were Pakistani TV interviews on YouTube that completely contradicted the Obama Admin story. Then there is the Bhuto interview not long before she was assasinated where she said he was already dead.

The truth is out there, yet you chose to believe the proven serial liars (Bush & cabinet, Obama & Cabinet).

i agree, the initial narrative sounded made up. seal team 6 finds bin laden, kills him & takes the body. body is transferred to a different helicopter & team 6's chopper fails and crashes killing the entire team...dead men tell no tales i guess

bin laden's corpse is transferred to the navy, and they dump him in the sea. >.< who makes this stuff up?

on a side note, u know whats crazy about Bhuto's assassination? look up what happened to Marcos in the philippines. he was getting overthrown & tried to resist. his opposition, Aquino (who was supposed to be in exile) returns on an airliner & was supposed to greet all his supporters & do press conferences when he gets shot in the head. media outrage, riots everywhere, Marcos then steps down and Corazon takes over & has no idea how to defend against neoliberal financial warfare. its like these globalists use the same tactics everywhere.

thx for the links btw +1

I always thought in light of the big 911 surprise to the various intellgence communities, whom lately seem to agree on just about everything, how it was a bit surreal, naming the culprit in record time (instantly) and having it repeated verbatim on every network, around the globe, soon to be followed by the discovery of the pristine drivers license in the ashs ..

It's amusing in a sordid sort of way because it shows in full display how linked they all are.

In the US, UK and France and a lot of European countries it's "Russia Russia Russia" election meddling - but they know that won't cut it in Oceania so NZ and Australia are fed "China China China".  No shit, apparently the Chinese are meddling in our elections if you believe the papers.

So in the space of 2 years we have gone from nothing being reported - EVER - about meddling in western elections to it being the norm... the world over.

We all know know that 9/11 was the biggest false flag in history next to the attack on Pearl Harbor which FDR had prior knowledge about. All 19 hijackers were known to the CIA and FBI prior to them coming in to the United States. Some unclassified reports indicate that they were Mossad. Bin Laden was a CIA operative with the Mujahideen fighting against the Russians in the 1980's. The entire government under Bush was guilty of high treason. He/the CIA set in motion the momentum for Al Qaeda and the Haqqani Network from Pakistan who continues to attack Americans worldwide. So we should have attacked Afghanistan with everything we had. Blaming Iraq of being connected to 9/11 and having weapons of mass destruction was totally false too. Snowden said Bin Laden is alive in the Bahamas now. I would tend to believe him over the .gov narrative.
