Rape! Murder! It's just a shot away. It's just a shot away.
On RT.com I recently read this story...
A 17-year-old girl from the Netherlands, a survivor of sexual abuse, has voluntarily ended her life following a years-long struggle with depression and mental illness.
Noa Pothoven died in her home in Arnhem on Sunday, on a hospital bed set up in her living room. She passed away after refusing all food and fluids for several days, local newspaper De Gelderlander reported.
A victim of sexual molestation at the age of 11, and rape at 14, Pothoven had sought out euthanasia after failing to cope with her mental trauma.

I was deeply disturbed by the story. To me, it illustrates the term, "powerless," on so many levels.
I was reminded of a great book, which I recently recommended to ZeroHedge readers:
Hellstorm: The Death of Nazi Germany, 1944-1947, Thomas Goodrich
Goodrich's illustrations of the rape and murder of German women are also quite sobering.
As I worked through my feelings, I ended up wanting to write this article about the power a firearm has as an equalizer for women.
Which, in turn, reminded me of this video in New York City...
Sickening. I know. Hang in there with me. I have just one more to show you. If you have not already read my ZeroHedge article, A Tale of Two Home Invasions, then please do so, now, then come right back.
Here is my plea to you.
Ladies, choose to not be a victim.
Ladies, choose to live in a place where defending yourself and your loved ones is legal for you and your neighbors.
Ladies, choose to fight those who want to take away this natural right.
Ladies, choose to learn how to defend yourself and your loved ones.
Ladies, choose to train regularly to be able win a fight for your life, liberty, property, and loved ones.
Ladies, choose to always be ready to defend your life, liberty, property, and loved ones.
Ladies, choose to not be powerless!
Many women have made these choices, and I promise you this. These women do not feel powerless.
And ladies, if you think this is all a bit much, and you cannot ever imagine needing this type of fire power...
...and then get back to me after watching this...
Filmmaker Matthew Heineman and Executive Producer Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker", "Zero Dark Thirty") bring us this unprecedented look at two vigilante groups fighting the murderous drug cartels on both sides of the Mexican border.
Now, men, I have something to say to you as well.
Do you think that you, alone, are ready, willing, and able to defend your life, liberty, and property?
Do you think that you are such a badass that when faced with multiple armed adversaries you are going to perform like Charles Bronson at the train station in, Once Upon A Time in the West?
And do you really believe, men, that if the shit hits the fan, you are going to be able to sit on your front porch and fend off "The Golden Horde" with your deer hunting rifle, while the Little Lady stays in the kitchen and makes you a sandwich? If you do, then Lauren Southern, Max Alexander, and I have some news for you about gun fights and societal collapse.
Why? Primarily, because "fire and maneuver" is what usually wins a real gunfight, despite what you might see in a John Wick movie, and it simply doesn't work very well when it is just you firing and maneuvering. Watch Max's videos on just this topic, or better, still, read his books, take his classes, and bring your significant other!
My point is simply this. In a gunfight, two people is much more than twice as effective as one person. How much more? I don't know, but maybe 10X rather than 2X. If you are like me, men, then the person most likely to be by my side at any given time is my wife. In addition, I cannot always be by her side to defend her. So, take your wife, daughters, sisters, girlfriends, mother, grandmother, aunt, even mother-in-law, out for some shooting instruction. And get good tactical training. Specifically, take advantage of the opportunity to sign up for the third stop of this summer's ZeroHedge Live Fight Club and Long Gun Training sessions next month in Houston, Texas. Brian Hoffner knows how to train women to fight for their life...especially with a shotgun. In fact, his Tactical Shotgun class is mrs_horseman's favorite. The best part is that Brian is offering this class at two for the price of one, so your significant other comes for free! Just mention this post when you call to sign up.
True story. Just about a week ago, we had our dog alarm go off in the middle of the night. I grabbed my gear in a flash, and was relieved to see mrs_horseman already safely tucked in on my six, ready to go with her Benelli. What a relief! I know very well that clearing a home, and God forbid winning a Close Quarters Battle, is way, way, way easier with a trained buddy than all alone.
Don't own a shotgun for the home?
Buy a new Benelli Nova Tactical Pump-Action 12 gauge shotgun ($400). There are some places to save money, but this isn't one of them.
Or, if you can afford the best, and want to be at least armed like John Wick in Volume 3, then follow this UPDATED mrs_horseman's recipe for, "Can-of-Whoop-Ass."
