Despite the origins of ANTIFA being well-documented in the annals of history since the founding of Antifaschisctische Aktion by the Community Party of Germany in the waning days of the Weimar Republic, mainstream media has given its audiences a live broadcast of revisionist history in effort to continually refute the existence of the movement.

While the impetus of the original incarnation of ANTIFA was in direct response to the German Federal Elections in July and November 1932 to stand against the rise of Hitlerian National Socialism, the modern iteration of the organization is comparatively much more aimless in its pursuits. In many ways, the antifascist ideology is merely one of two polarities in the ideological doublethink its followers are under the spell of, as despite the group’s opposition to fascism, it has called for authoritarian mandates imposed by the federal government as well as broadly supporting the private-public cartel created by Operation Warp Speed which effectively created a 21st century version of IG Farben. While a finite mission or endgame from ANTIFA is hard to pinpoint, one of its goals is clear: achieving total mayhem.

Chaos descends upon downtown Atlanta.

In pursuit of that mission, downtown Atlanta took center stage in ANTIFA’s latest display of destruction. Following an official decree, Friday night marked a “Night of Rage” promised by the Atlanta chapter of ANTIFA. Calls for widespread violence and unrest followed in the wake of a shooting between Georgia State Patrol Troopers and an armed ANTIFA member when law enforcement took to an autonomous zone declared by the radical leftist faction at the site of the future Atlanta Public Safety Training Center on the morning of January 18th. This particular ANTIFA outpost was manned by a faction of the group called “Defend Atlanta Forest.”

According to Georgia Bureau of Investigations director Michael Register, the shooting  firefight began one ANTIFA occupier opened up fire on troopers in response to their calls to verbal directive calling him to come out from the tent he was camping in. This led to Georgia State Patrol Troopers exchanging fire, resulting the the fatal shooting of the assailant but not before one of the law enforcement officers was shot.

In the weeks before the raid, several other arrests were made in the same autonomous zone. One of them included the arrest of Francis Carroll, the scion of a millionaire surgeon from Maine who regularly vacationed in proximity to the Bush family compound in Kennebunkport. Another of those arrested was Serena Hertel, a 25 year old charged with criminal trespass, domestic terrorism, aggravated assault, obstruction, and inciting a riot. Before her arrested, Hertel was quoted in a puff-piece published in The Guardian which was sponsored by George Soros' Open Society Foundation in an effort to cast ANTIFA in a sympathetic life. Despite the arrests of Carroll and Hertel, occupants of the autonomous zone dug their heels into the ground, prompting the raid which led to this week's fatal shooting on Wednesday morning.

Following the firefight, four other ANTIFA members were also arrested in the autonomous zone. Matthew Macar, Spencer Bernard Liberto, Sarah Wasilewski, and a John Doe were all arrested and taken to Dekalb County Jail where they have been charged with domestic terrorism and aggravated assault on a public safety officer. In all, the operation cleared approximately 25 campsites from the area encompassing the ANTIFA-declared autonomous zone. The arrests and fatal shooting resulted in calls for immediate retribution from ANTIFA, marking Friday, January 20th as a “Night of Rage” meant to avenge their fallen comrade.

'On Friday, January 20th, wherever you are, you are invited to participate in a night of rage in order to honor the memory of our fallen comrade.'

The protestors, who call themselves forest defenders, are claiming that the police have 'murdered' one of their own and are demanding 'action'.

Eventually, Friday evening came and went without anything to write home about. The supposed “Night of Rage” was calm and uneventful. However, things took a much more violent turn on Saturday night with chaos enveloping downtown Atlanta. “Hundreds of protesters gathered at Underground Atlanta before moving down Peachtree St. in the heart of downtown Atlanta,” according to local news outlet WSB-TV, who went on to say “Shortly after, an Atlanta police cruiser was set on fire and windows of local businesses were busted.”

The violence on Saturday evening escalated when rioters set fire to a police car in downtown Atlanta. Despite the destruction called by ANTIFA members who took to the streets, their nebulous public relations apparatus wasted no time in offering trite company lines designed to obfuscate the reality of the events in order to absolve their peers from any wrongdoing. One ANTIFA adjacent group named “Stop Cop City” released a statement in an effort to deflect away from the riots, saying:

“Destruction of material is fundamentally different from violence. All reported acts appear to be explicitly targeted against the financial backers & goons of the Atlanta Police Foundation, a shady nonprofit that funnels weapons and military gear into our city to wage war on black and brown folks. The police have raided the forest for over 7 months, destroying material by trashing camps and water supplies, threatened the lives of forest defenders and now have murdered one. Protestors are only leveling the playing field & preventing future violence by disabling the economic machine of the Atlanta Police Foundation that seeks to sterilize all life within the Weelaunee Forest.”

The mayhem unfolding in downtown Atlanta prompted Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp to issue his own response, claiming that criminals responsible for the chaos would be prosecuted to the furthest extent of the law. Kemp’s Attorney General, Chris Carr, took to Twitter to categorize the criminals as rioters in the court of public opinion, calling out media outlets who wrongfully described the assailants as protesters. Earlier in the week, Carr announced his intention to continue to pursue sweeping indictments against ANTIFA members for domestic terrorism charges following the shooting that took place in the Atlanta autonomous zone.

The scale of the violence and destruction inflicted upon downtown Atlanta is yet to be known as the riots have not yet concluded. As of Saturday evening, Atlanta Police announced an active and ongoing investigation into the riots that have already yielded multiple arrests. For the time being, no lethal force has been reported either from rioters or law enforcement tasked with quelling the chaos. Although the initiative to more actively charge rioters under relevant domestic terrorism statutes is a marked change of approach against the group, chances are that ANTIFA will respond to that new strategy with the same old claims that its members were merely “peaceful protestors.”
