All is not well in the utopian land of Democratic politics... already!
In leaked audio, obtained by The Intercept, Biden was unenthusiastic about executive action and warned against police reform before Georgia’s Senate runoffs. As Ryan Grim reports, on Tuesday, a group of civil rights leaders urged him privately to take a slew of executive actions during a two-hour virtual meeting.
While Biden didn’t close the door to anything specific, he was far from enthusiastic about the idea of using executive action...
“I’m not going to hesitate to do it, but what I’m not going to do is… when you’d have some of the people you were supporting saying, ‘On Day One I’m gonna have an executive order to do this!’ Not within the constitutional authority.”
“I am not going to violate the Constitution, he continued.
“Executive authority that my progressive friends talk about is way beyond the bound, and as one of you said, maybe it was you, Reverend Al, whether it’s far left or far, right, there is a Constitution.”
Biden pledged to use executive authority to “undo every single damn thing [President Donald Trump] has done by executive authority, but I’m not going to exercise executive authority where it’s a question.”
As The Daily Caller reports, the president-elect specifically singled out enacting sweeping “assault weapons” ban as violating the Constitution.
“There’s no executive authority to do away that,” he explained.
“No one has fought harder to get rid of assault weapons than me, me, but you can’t do it by executive order. We do that, next guy comes along and says, well, guess what? By executive order, I guess everybody can have machine guns again. So we’ve got to be careful.”
Progressives like Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have urged Biden to use executive authority on numerous other issues, including civil rights protections, student debt cancellation, raising the national minimum wage and prioritizing the climate and clean energy.
And as far as "defund the police" - Biden was clearly a 'no'...
“I also don’t think we should get too far ahead of ourselves on dealing with police reform in that, because they’ve already labeled us as being ‘defund the police’ anything we put forward in terms of the organizational structure to change policing — which I promise you, will occur. Promise you,”
“So there’s some things that I’m going to be able to do by executive order,” Biden says on the recording.
"Just think to yourself and give me advice whether we should do that before January 5th, because that's how they beat the living hell out of us across the country, saying that we're talking about defunding the police. We're not. We're talking about holding them accountable," Biden continued.
Biden was also echoing Obama's earlier comments, as The Hill reports:
"You lost a big audience the minute you say it, which makes it a lot less likely that you're actually going to get the changes you want done," Obama said.
"The key is deciding, do you want to actually get something done, or do you want to feel good among the people you already agree with?"
Which fits with Cornel West's explanation of why Dems lost so many down-ballot races...
In a live chat with @DailyPoster subscribers last night, @CornelWest addressed the claim that "defund the police" was the reason Democrats lost down ballot races. Watch his answer here. pic.twitter.com/hsoHRtch0N— The Daily Poster (@dailyposter) December 10, 2020
So, the question is - who would have 'leaked' that audio to The Intercept, and why?
We have an idea...
The radical marxist political organization known as Black Lives Matter appears to have taken major umbrage at the fact that they were not invited to join the discussion with civil rights leaders about Justice Department issues, including police reform.
Judging by their Twitter feed, the group that was largely empowered by Biden and his leftist friends is pissed at being excluded...

The civil rights movement of the 21st century involves BLM. To leave us out is to ignore the millions of people who brought the Biden Harris victory home.@JoeBiden @KamalaHarris we are watching, we are waiting, and we are tired of waiting.— Black Lives Matter (@Blklivesmatter) December 9, 2020
And as Jeff Gundlach noted, "oddly a lot of these protests disappeared one week before the election. Makes you wonder what is going on behind the surface" and now BLM are demanding some quid pro quo...
The night of their victory, we sent @joebiden and @kamalaharris a letter requesting a meeting.— Black Lives Matter (@Blklivesmatter) December 9, 2020
It has now been 32 days and we have yet to receive a response. To set up a meeting with civil rights leaders, without BLM, is unacceptable. pic.twitter.com/QdTLN9r6zP
So, are the Democrats facing civil war already among their ranks of identity politicking factions? Did one of the BLM-friendly civil rights leaders on the call pass their audio recording of the session to BLM?
Of course, we are sure that the leak will more likely be blamed on a Trump 'operative' or Russian agents or Eric Swalwell's ex-girlfriend...
