Barclays Says China Chip Output To Double In Five Years Despite US Tech War

China, the so-called 'mecca' of global semiconductor production, is reportedly on course to double fabrication capacity in the upcoming years, based on new research by Barclays analysts. This comes despite Washington's tech war against Beijing, aimed at restricting the world's second-largest economy from advancing chip manufacturing. 

"Our work analyzing capacity expansion plans of 48 local semiconductor manufacturing companies in China suggests their total capacity could more than double," Barclays analysts led by Joseph Zhou wrote in a note to clients on Thursday.
