If the whipsawing of around 3 percent in Nvidia’s share price on each of the past three days is making you queasy, with each lurch representing a swing in market capitalisation of at least $120 billion, take a look at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas’s extraordinary estimate of the impact of AI on US GDP per capita from June.
As Deutsche Bank's Jim Reid highlights in his 'Chart of the Day' note this morning, while the Dallas Fed forecast that GDP per capita will increase in line with trend growth since 1870 of 1.9 percent with no AI effect, and by 2.1 percent if boosted by AI, it also envisages two extreme scenarios that are perhaps at extreme ends of what markets are trying to grapple with in terms of the future impact of AI.
