Tax day is finally here, and we have some good and bad news.

First, recall that one of Trump's effective fiscal stimulus measures for 2026 was a surge in a tax refunds which are meant to have a roughly equivalent impact of a stimmy check. The White House had already declared this the "largest tax refund season in U.S. history," and so far it's on track to be, due to the Republicans' signature tax and spending law, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). The White House projected the average refund "to rise by $1,000 or more this year."
