In light of the WSJ reporting that Trump has told aides he would be willing to end the Iran war without reopening Hormuz, below we share what according to RBC's commodity expert - as well as former CIA economic analyst - Helima Croft, are the three possible paths on the war with Iran at this stage.
According to Croft, as the Iran war enters its second month, Washington is facing an increasingly difficult set of exit options given that the IRGC leadership -which has now defacto seized control of Iran from the mullahs - remains relatively intact and in firm control of the world’s most valuable maritime chokepoint. Despite being the largest energy supply disruption in history, a corner of the market still seems convinced that President Trump will soon call time and bring the conflict to a swift conclusion. However, there seems to be no silver bullet, and RBC sees three possible policy paths for the White House.
