'Token Wars' Have Begun: Goldman One-Delta Desk Warns Bottlenecks Don't Last

Yesterday, we highlighted the growing clash of narratives within the AI ecosystem as token spend is increasingly hard to justify for many large tech firms as 'tokenmaxxing' efforts come up short of actual viable economics:

...tokenomics has become the load-bearing variable in the thesis, and it didn't used to be.

The question six months ago was whether the technology worked. That question now has an empirically clear answer: yes, for some workloads, for some users, sometimes.

The new question is whether the unit economics work at enterprise scale on a timeline compatible with the revenue trajectory the labs and their cloud landlords need to sustain current valuations.

The bull answer requires orchestration to mature and unit economics to inflect on a 12-18 month horizon.

The bear answer requires more enterprise executives to do what Macdonald just did – say out loud that the spending doesn't justify itself – and start cutting consumption.

Both paths are plausible. Neither is yet decided.
