Setting The Stage
Shortly before Zero Hedge's Israel-Palestine debate on Wednesday, an important shift in the discourse about American Jews and antisemitism happened. We've seen two related phenomena in America since the October 7th Hamas attacks:
- Anti-Israel (and sometimes anti-Jewish) protests, mostly, but not exclusively by nonwhites.
- Some American Jewish activists blaming a rise in antisemitism on gentile American whites.
A recent example of the second phenomenon was Gad Saad's post using the name "Roscoe" to describe archetypical American antisemite. The full text of Saad's tweet:
The human mind is fueled by pathogical narcissistic tribalism. I've probably received more hate because of people being upset by my "Roscoe" tweet then from Islamists. "Roscoe" is meant to capture an American Jew-hater. He could reside in Boston, LA, or Mobile. The fact that I used "Arkansas" in my tweet does not imply that I'm demeaning people from Arkansas or people from the Midwest or the South. It is a f**king archetype of a person who is fueled by bigotry as per the Charlottesville March of a few years ago. Grow up. Focus. Think about the larger enemies of the West. Countless people who are choosing to be offended should be on the same team as me. I truly don't know why I persist in this fight. It is thankless, painful, and exhausting. I do it for my children and yours.
It’s pretty clear from past tweets what you mean by “roscoe” and it’s certainly not someone from Boston or LA. pic.twitter.com/pS7JuOmceo— [ＲＥＤＡＣＴＥＤ]リ茨す (@danirish) November 12, 2023
As Jack Posobiec and others pointed out, it hasn't been the Roscoes rioting against Israel or Jews.
A Public Service Ad
Another example of the "Roscoe" phenomenon was this PSA posted by Charles Webber, in which an archetypical Midwestern white man scolds his son for posting antisemitic comments online.

In response, the X account "The Artist Formerly Known As Eric" suggested that since American Jewish groups have advocated for mass third world immigration as well as an antiwhite dialectic (presumably, referring to DEI/wokeness), he wasn't sympathetic to the plight of American Jews now becoming the target of both.
Jewish communities have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.
I'm deeply disinterested in giving the tiniest shit now about western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities [they] support flooding their country don't exactly like them too much.
You want truth said to your face, there it is.
This reply by Elon Musk has driven hundreds of thousands of views to that post.

Elon Musk Versus The ADL Again
Elon followed up by directly calling out the ADL:
The ADL unjustly attacks the majority of the West, despite the majority of the West supporting the Jewish people and Israel.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 15, 2023
This is because they cannot, by their own tenets, criticize the minority groups who are their primary threat.
It is not right and needs to stop.
It will be interesting to see how the ADL responds.
Early Thursday Update
Reactions continue to Elon Musk's posts about this continue to pour in, with some on the left inevitably accusing him of antisemitism. In response, a friend of ours questioned their sudden concern about antisemitism following their silence in the face of "Gas the Jews" signs from pro-Palestinian protestors.

Thursday Afternoon Update
ADL head Jonathan Greenblatt responds.
At a time when antisemitism is exploding in America and surging around the world, it is indisputably dangerous to use one's influence to validate and promote antisemitic theories. #NeverIsNow pic.twitter.com/vVlyOeoS5x— Jonathan Greenblatt (@JGreenblattADL) November 16, 2023
Let's close on a less disturbing topic.
