Microsoft's New AI System Can Diagnose Diseases Better Than Doctors
As I keep emphasizing, AI is going to revolutionize healthcare.
In the last two weeks, we’ve already noted:
- Drug giant Novo Nordisk (NVO) is partnering with Nvidia (NVDA) to develop new drug discovery programs via a supercomputer run by AI.
- Healthcare giant IQVIA (IQV) is developing AI agents to do everything from reviewing clinical and scientific literature to acting as lab assistants.
- Researchers have found that AI-driven machine learning is able to accurately diagnose diseases with an accuracy rate of 94%-98%... compared to clinicians who have an accuracy rate of 81%.
However, even these development pale in comparison to what Microsoft (MSFT) just announced.
MSFT’s AI division is developing an AI model that is able to replicate the intelligence of a panel of experts. As The Guardian notes, when challenged on 10 problems that were specifically designed to test the system’s diagnostic skills, the system accurately diagnosed 8 out of 10 of the cases correctly. By way of comparison, physicians only diagnosed two out of 10 cases correctly.
This opens the door to “superintelligence”: a computer capable of intelligence greater than that of human beings. As MSFT stated “Scaling this level of reasoning – and beyond – has the potential to reshape healthcare. AI could empower patients to self-manage routine aspects of care and equip clinicians with advanced decision support for complex cases.”
MSFT is downplaying the implications for doctors (job losses) emphasizing that this new system would act to supplement healthcare professionals, but you don’t have to be a genius to connect the dots here. It’s very possible that in the future, patients will be diagnosed by AI… which won’t require an appointment.
Again, AI is going to revolutionize healthcare. The profit potential here is incredible as AI will dramatically reduce costs, time and energy necessary to get access to quality care. Those companies that position themselves correctly for this tectonic shift will compound for years to come.
On that note, we just published a new special investment report The AI Plays Your Broker Doesn’t Know About that details three “outside the box” investments designed to profit from AI. Best of all, Wall Street has no idea the potential here.
