The Great Black Good Samaritan

In Tom Wolfe's heavily-researched novel Bonfire of the Vanities, Bronx prosecutors find their job depressing: every day they pack black and Hispanic men off to jail. They know these men are guilty, but they feel bad about it anyway, and hope they'll occasionally get a "Great White Defendant"--a white man who's committed a terrible crime who they can publicly prosecute to show everyone they're not racist.

The Great Black Good Samaritan (my term) is the inverse of the Great White Defendant. We see so many terrible stories of black crime, that a lot of us are desperate to see an opposite example--and for a brief moment this week, we got one. Within a day, though, our hopes were dashed. It's really an amazing story. Before we get to it though, a brief follow up on our previous post, Silver Slingshot

Silver Slingshot Update

So far, that trade is playing out as we expected, but there's still time to hop on board. The same is true of our stealth silver play from last month. If you would like a heads up when we place our next trade, you can sign up for our trading Substack below.

Friday Morning Update

New trade alert just went out:

Okay, back to our story now.

The Short-Lived Story Of The Great Black Samaritan

Before this week, the last time a black man and a knife made news on the Charlotte Light Rail was when Iryna Zarutska was stabbed to death earlier this year.

This week, we heard a very different story. An illegal alien was screaming at riders on the Charlotte Light Rail, and a Good Samaritan, a black man named Kenyon Dobie, stood up to the illegal alien, and got stabbed for that.

Numerous accounts on X lavished praise on Dobie, calling him a hero and a patriot. A GoFundMe was launched in his name, and "William Ackman" (presumably, our hedge fund friend better known as Bill Ackman) donated $10,000.

Flash forward a day, and it turns out that Kenyon Dobie is not such a good guy.

Dobie is now being held on $2 million bail, thanks to Iryna's Law, which was passed to prevent repeat felons like the one who killed her from committing crimes again.
