Yields Up, Stocks Down - Tuesday Premarket 5/19/26
Good Morning Team,
Futures are lower this morning as yields are up again.
The market is extended and way overdue to pullback.
That could become a problem if yields keep going up for the economy and if, they go up too much, that could trigger a recession (especially if energy prices keep going up).
The market fell on Monday but recovered late in the day after Trump said "he’s postponing ‘scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow’ at Middle East leaders’ request."
This is a big week because Nvidia reports earnings on Wednesday.
NVDA is the poster child of AI and if the numbers are not good (doubtful) that could hurt the very strong rally in AI/semiconductor stocks.
Investors will also monitor retail earnings, housing data, Fed meeting minutes, manufacturing activity, and consumer sentiment as markets look for signals on economic strength, AI demand, and interest rate expectations.
