The Second Wave of Inflation Is Coming (Most Aren't Ready)
The IMF just conceded what your grocery receipt has been screaming for years: food and energy shocks are becoming the norm. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent insists the economy is “accelerating” and that core inflation sits at a tame 2.3%. Core, of course, excludes food and energy (because who needs to eat or heat their home?). Overlay today’s CPI on the 1970s and the pattern is uncomfortably exact: first wave done, second wave loading, with $40 trillion in debt and rising yields doing the stacking. The last time this chart played out, gold went from $35 to roughly $600 in a decade. Central banks already know which side of that trade they want to be on.
