France Is Burning (America Could Be Next)
France is burning. America is its sleeping twin.
The US runs a bigger deficit (6.2% vs. 5.4%) and hotter inflation (3.7% vs. 3.4%) than the country currently setting fire to its own streets. Total debt sits at 122% of GDP, the highest since 1946, when we at least had a world war to blame it on. Meanwhile, roughly a third of America’s “booming” growth is AI spending with no proven return (but the headlines assure us everything is fine). Central banks just logged their biggest gold haul in nearly two years. They’re also bringing their bars back home.
So why are we spending like we’re in a crisis if there isn’t one?
