Gold - what is it?

Gold continues trading inside the huge triangle like formation. We are getting closer and closer to a break out move in gold from a technical point of view, but what is gold? Lately it hasn't been the fear hedge, it isn't an inflation hedge, most dislike it these days, but it still manages to hold these levels and has over the past sessions seen some upside momentum. We are back to asking ourselves if gold is the ultimate hedge for central banks losing the control of the "system"?
